On the slopes of the Mutspitze, west of Tirol Castle, is the Thurnstein Castle at the crossroads for Algund and Gratsch. Beautiful view of the Adige Valley.
The diligence of the farmers is what has made the landscape around Algund, its irrigation channel and the Schlundenstein Path what it is.
The location and the intensity of nature make it one of the most interesting places in the entire Meraner Land.
You walk across the Grabbachweg path via Algund village, then before the Blumenthalerhof hotel along the Ochsentodweg path up to the Unter-Ötzbauerhof farm (520 m); turn left at the Vellau signpost and walk up the ascending forest path via the Kronsbichl. Then cross the Grabbach river again and reach Birbamegg. After a few forest hairpin bends, you reach the Gasthof Oberlechner Vellau and the little “Kirchlein zur Dreifaltigkeit” church with a unique panoramic view. Return via Jägersteig path and Schlundensteinweg path or by public bus or chairlift to the village of Mitterplars.
Via the Adige Valley, take the MeBo expressway to the Algund exit.
Coming from Vinschgau, Algund is just before Merano.
Pay parking in the center of Algund, opposite the town hall.
By train to Merano and by bus line 235 to Algund.
