From the Algunder Waalweg you have a unique view of the Burggrafenamt and the Etsch Valley. The closer you get to the Gratsch district of Merano, the more often you will encounter palm trees, cypresses and olive trees, which add a touch of Tuscany to the wine landscape.
The Waalweg begins at the car park by the Töllgraben bridge just below the village of Töll. Soon you cross the Vellauer Straße and walk further below Plars past the Gasthof Leiter am Waal to the Café Konrad. After crossing a small access road, the trail continues flat to the suspension bridge where the Waal ends. A little bit before, path no. 29A off and after a short descent (approx. 0. 15 h) you reach the little church of St. Magdalena in Gratsch (bus stop bus 236 to Merano). A little less steep is the descent on the little used road that leads from Gratsch to Thurnstein Castle. Halfway along the route is the entrance to the Tappeinerweg, a wide approx. 4 km long promenade path, which leads almost level to the historical centre of Merano ( Walking time approx. 1. 00 h). Return to Naturno with bus 251 or the Vinschgerbahn, as far as the parking lot Töll with line 213.
