KlimaGemeinde Light is a program that supports South Tyrolean municipalities in building sustainable energy and environmental management. It is the entry level of the more comprehensive KlimaGemeinde program, which is based on the European Energy Award.
To receive the award, the municipality of Algund had to:
1. Collect energy and environmentally relevant data
2. Introduce the energy management program for public buildings and facilities (EBO)
3. Create a comprehensive energy report for municipally owned buildings and facilities
Nearly 28 percent of the energy needs (heat and electricity) of public buildings and facilities are already covered by renewable energy sources. The eleven municipally owned photovoltaic systems produce approximately 340 megawatt hours of clean electricity annually.
The municipality was accompanied and supported by the Education and Energy Forum (AFB). Particularly in the area of mobility, the municipality has implemented various measures in recent years.
