100 kilometres, countless vistas, pure Alpine charm: the Merano High Mountain Trail (Meraner Höhenweg) is one of the most beautiful circular hiking routes in the entire Alpine region. It loops around the Texel Group Nature Park – South Tyrol’s largest protected area – at around 1,400 metres above sea level, connecting the Merano basin with the Vinschgau, Schnals and Passeier valleys.
Along the way, Alpine and Mediterranean landscapes alternate. The trail is divided into a northern and southern section. The northern route features the Eisjöchl (2,895 m) – the highest point of the hike. The southern part winds gently through the sun-drenched slopes of the Texel Group, offering views of orchards, vineyards and historic villages.
