Natural Garden Competition

A competition where everyone wins

Algund Natural Garden Competition 2025: Raabenhof and Hausbacherhof emerge as winners
14 gardens demonstrate how biodiversity and sustainability are lived in Algund

Algund, September 29, 2025 – For the second time, the Algund Tourism Association has organized the Natural Garden Competition, sending a strong signal for nature-oriented gardening and active sustainability. 14 participants, ranging from traditional farmsteads to private gardens, faced evaluation by a professional jury of garden and landscape experts as well as municipal representatives.

Two categories, many winners
In the "Gardens and Parks" category, Raabenhof impressed with an outstanding 91 points, securing first place. Following closely behind was Untermairhof with 90 points, while Dorfweber took third place with 82 points. In the "Farm and Kitchen Gardens" category, victory went to Hausbacherhof (79 points), followed by Raabenhof (78 points)—which excelled in both categories—and Grieserhof (66 points) in third place.

More than just beautiful gardens
"What we see here are not just well-kept gardens; they are living examples of how sustainability can be implemented in everyday life," explains Barbara Meraner, PR and Sustainability Officer of the Algund Tourism Association. "Every garden tells its own story of people who have understood that true nature conservation begins right at their own doorstep." The participating gardens impressed with their diversity: humming bees, fragrant herb spirals, traditional cottage gardens, and innovative concepts for increased biodiversity impressively demonstrated what nature-oriented gardening looks like in practice.

A success story with far-reaching impact
Particularly gratifying: last year's winners, Maratscher Hotel and D.A. Genussgarten, received the official "Natur im Garten" (Nature in the Garden) plaque from Laimburg in cooperation with the Province of South Tyrol this year. This serves as proof that Algund's commitment to natural gardens is gaining recognition even beyond the local region.

With the Natural Garden Competition, Algund sets an important example for biodiversity and sustainable action. The award-winning gardens vividly show that sustainability does not have to remain a theory but can be successfully integrated into daily life.
