Leiter Alm mountain hut – Taufenscharte pass – Mutspitze peak – Mutkopf restaurant – Steinegg restaurant – Leiter Alm mountain hut
The starting point of this beautiful mountain tour is the Leiter Alm mountain hut that is comfortably reachable by the Algund/Lagundo-Vellau/Velloi chair lift and the Vellau/Velloi-Leiter Alm mountain hut gondola basket lift. First take the Meraner Höhenweg high alpine trail no. 24 westwards until trail no. 25 branches off to the right and leads through forest and later above the tree line in serpentines up to the Taufenscharte pass (2,230 m). From there follow trail no. 25 to your right eastwards to the Mutspitze peak (2,294 m). As the trail is on the north side of the steep mountainside, you should take possible snow and ice in early summer and in autumn into account. From the peak, trail no. 23 leads through rather steep rugged terrain along the eastern ridge and then in serpentines down to the Mutkopf restaurant (1,680 m). Continue along trail no. 22 to the Steinegg restaurant and then along the Meraner Höhenweg high alpine trail no. 24 back to the starting point, the Leiter Alm mountain hut.
Through the Adige Valley to Algund and from there to Vellau.
At the valley station basket lift in Vellau
By train to Algund and further by bus 235 to Vellau.
