Hiking with a clear conscience

To make sure you're fully prepared for your hike, here’s a quick overview of the essentials you should always pack:

  • Sturdy, waterproof hiking boots with a suitable sole, preferably ankle-high
  • Weather-appropriate, waterproof clothing and a change of clothes in your backpack
  • Trekking poles (optional)
  • Plenty of water, nutritious snacks, sunscreen, sunglasses, rain protection
  • A small bag or container for waste
  • Hiking map, mobile phone, and a first aid kit
  • A headlamp for emergencies

Food and drink in the mountains

Whether you’re taking a relaxed valley walk or a long mountain tour around Algund: the best snacks come straight from the region. Fresh bread from the village bakery, seasonal fruits and vegetables, homemade jams or tangy South Tyrolean cheese from the local dairy. When you buy local, you support both your body and the regional economy. Short transport routes are better for the environment and it simply tastes better!

Don’t forget: Bring enough water ideally in a reusable bottle you can refill at the many drinking fountains in and around Algund.
That way, your hike will be both enjoyable and responsible.

How to pack your backpack properly

1  Light gear (down jacket, rain protection...)
Heavy gear (food, water bottle, camera...) at shoulder height, close to your back
3  Medium gear (clothing)
Small items (phone, keys, sunscreen...) that should be easily accessible
