10 Highlights in Algund

The parish church of St. Joseph is considered one of the most beautiful and modern churches in the Alpine region and is an example of contemporary architecture. The church was built between 1966 and 1971 based on the plans of the renowned architect Dr. Willy Gutweniger. A guided church tour takes place every Thursday.

Anyone arriving in Algund by car or bus can’t miss them – these oversized chairs nestled among vineyards and apple orchards. Thanks to their panoramic view over Algund and the Merano basin, they are among the most popular local attractions. You’ll find them in Oberplars, Aschbach, and on the Leiter Alm.

From Vellau, the nostalgic gondola basket lift takes you directly up to the Leiter Alm hut. Once at the top, you're right on the Merano High Mountain Trail – reason enough to take the ride. A true adventure for young and old alike.
