Since 1886, Merano has celebrated the Grape Festival every year – a colorful event full of joy, gratitude, and living South Tyrolean tradition. The festival marks the peak of the harvest season and is deeply rooted in the city’s social life.
A special highlight of the parade is Algund’s festival float, the “Kundschafter.” With its oversized 300-kilogram grape, it is one of the most important floats of the festival. The float itself weighs around half a ton, measuring 4.5 meters in height and 1.6 meters in width. The giant grape reaches a height of one and a half meters and was first decorated in this form in 1951 – a true landmark of the Grape Festival.
Unique in the Alpine region: the Grape Festival parade is the only major parade featuring horse-drawn carriages. Visitors can admire the beautifully decorated floats and experience South Tyrol’s vibrant traditions up close.
