Among vineyards, orchards, and wide views of the mountains, you’ll find places where everyday life fades away, and you can simply enjoy without worries. Here we’ll show you the highlights that await you during a barrier-free stay in Algund.
Algund Waalweg canal trail
With its gentle access in Oberplars and its consistently level route, the Algund Waalweg canal trail is great for families with children, strollers, and also easily walkable for older visitors. However, as there can be occasional uneven sections along the way, we do not consider it to be fully barrier-free. Please check with the Algund Tourist Office beforehand to get a more accurate assessment for your trip.
Tappeinerweg trail in Merano
The Algund Waalweg leads directly into the Tappeinerweg trail in Merano. This level path runs above the city and offers fantastic panoramic views. The Tappeiner Promenade is officially classified by the city of Merano as fully accessible and is therefore easy to enjoy with wheelchairs and walkers.
Parish curch in Algund
The parish church of Algund is an outstanding example of contemporary sacred architecture in the Alpine region. Located in the heart of the village, on Algund’s church square, it impresses with its beauty. The mosaic windows inside are particularly remarkable. The church is fully accessible for all visitors.

Aschbach
Take the train from Algund center to Rabland. From there, hop on the Aschbach cable car to reach the mountains. In Aschbach, easy circular walks start, such as the Walderlebnispfad Aschbach adventure trail, which is stroller-friendly and also suitable for children and older visitors. Along the 3.6 km panoramic route, both children and adults can explore the diverse habitats of the local forest flora and fauna.
From the Aschbach mountain station, a paved road leads directly to the Maria Schnee chapel, which is fully accessible.
For us, accessibility means much more than ramps or wide paths. It means true participation and the feeling of being welcome. In Algund, we want everyone to experience the magic of our village: the blooming flowers and vibrant colors, the gentle murmur of the Waal paths, the scent of the vineyards, and the joy of shared outings. That’s why we make sure that many of our hotels and accommodations are fully accessible and greet you with open doors.
Vacation should know no limits – neither in nature nor in your mind. Algund stands for shared experiences, lightness, and moments that belong to everyone. Here, accessibility isn’t just offered, it’s lived.
