The Marling/Marlengo irrigation channel path

Duration: 1h 45
Length: 5,7 km
Altitude uphill: 162 hm
Altitude downhill: 162 hm
Highest point: 474 m
Municipality: Marling

Excursion on the Marling/Marlengo irrigation channel path with start in the center of Marling.

The Waalweg trail -Hiking along the irrigation channel

Spectacular views of the surrounding mountains can be seen along the entire length of the Marlinger Waalweg trail. The agricultural landscape lining the irrigation channels is also impressive, with meadows and forests alternating with vineyards and orchards. Along the Marlinger Waalweg trail there are also impressive views of the Merano basin, the Passeier Valley/Val Passiria, and the imposing Texelgruppe mountain range.

The route climbs from the centre of Marling along path no. 35 or 35 B through orchards up to the Waalweg (or irrigation channel trail). From here it heads – accompanied by lovely views - toward Lana. The route then passes Waalheim Inn (from where it is possible to make an early descent back to Marling) above the Mitterterz/Terzo di Mezzo area of the village until finally crossing the road leading to Castel Lebenberg. Follow street Lebenbergerstrasse/V. Monteleone for a few hundred meters downhill, then turn left across Mitterterzerstrasse past attractive farmsteads back to Marling.

The bus line 212 stopps directly in the centre of Marling.

For timetable information, please visit www.suedtirolmobil.info/en.

On the public car parks in the center of Marling (next to the fire brigade and in the Traubenwirt's park) can be parked for free for 120 minutes (with parking ticket!). For a longer parking time parking tickets can be solved (0,50 € / hr), whereby two hours are always free.

No special equipment is necessary. However, suitable hiking clothes, mountain boots and sufficient drinking are required.
