Tips for your mountain experience

With these tips, you're perfectly prepared for a safe hike

  • Always plan your hikes carefully: details about distance and difficulty level are crucial for a safe mountain experience. Also inform family members, your hosts or the hut keepers about your route.

  • Always check the weather forecast before you set off and keep an eye on conditions throughout the hike. Hut keepers often have helpful information about the local weather situation.

  • Don't overestimate your abilities and choose a route suitable for your fitness level. Start early and plan extra time to return before nightfall.

  • Maintain a steady, moderate pace and take enough breaks especially if you're hiking with children.

  • Stay hydrated! The best drinks are water, tea or natural fruit juices. Good hiking snacks include wholegrain bread, dried fruits and nuts. You can find all drinking water fountains in Algund here!

  • Make sure you wear the right gear, especially sturdy hiking boots: good shoes provide a safe grip and protect your joints.

  • Choose lightweight, breathable clothing and pack a change of clothes. Don’t forget warm and waterproof gear in your backpack. A first-aid kit is also essential.

  • Be considerate of weaker members of your group. Warn other hikers of potential dangers and offer first aid in emergencies.

  • Treat nature with respect: avoid noise, take your litter with you and protect the vegetation. Pay attention to protected plants and wildlife.

  • Always follow trail markers and stay on marked paths. Check your map regularly and turn back in case of doubt
