The Tourist Office Algund embarks on a sustainable future
On May 20, 2025, Algund took an important step toward a more sustainable tourism model with the launch of its first “Sustainability Round Table.” Dedicated citizens, representatives of the local administration, the tourism sector, senior community members, and local businesses gathered for an initial workshop to discuss Algund’s future together.
At the heart of the meeting was the presentation of the existing Climate Plan for Algund, introduced by the District Community. Based on detailed analyses of energy consumption and CO₂ emissions, the plan outlines how the municipality intends to significantly reduce its emissions by 2030. Active involvement of the local population plays a key role in achieving this goal.
However, the discussions extended far beyond climate protection alone. It became clear that sustainability in Algund is understood as a holistic concept—one that includes tourism, agriculture, local economic cycles, and social cohesion.
Together, the participants developed concrete goals to help shape a shared vision for Algund in the year 2040:
Strengthening local cycles
We aim to promote local products and services in order to create jobs and raise awareness of the value added within our own region.
A respectful and inclusive community
Algund should be a place where everyone—locals and guests alike—feels welcome and has equal opportunities.
Protecting our natural environment
We are committed to minimizing the environmental impact of tourism and preserving our region’s unique natural resources.
Sustainable mobility
Motorized traffic should be reduced in favor of eco-friendly alternatives such as cycling. The data from the many bike counting stations in the Burggrafenamt already show how popular and important this topic is!
The first “Sustainability Table” marked a successful start to a process that concerns us all. The goal is to make Algund an even more livable and future-oriented community. The next meeting between the sustainability officer of the Algund Tourism Association and the “Round Table for a Sustainable Algund” will already focus on developing concrete measures to achieve the goals mentioned above.
