Sports career

Omar has been on the slopes of this world with his snowboard for many years and can look back on numerous successes. From 2004 to 2010, he mainly competed in the European Cup. In his first World Cup race in Valmalenco, Omar finished 34th. Only one year later he came in 1st and thus got gold at the Junior World Championships 2009 in Nagano. In addition to numerous successful races, Omar claimed his first top ten finish in the World Cup in 2011. His first World Cup victory followed at the beginning of the 2012/2013 season in Montafon. Many other top placings in the World Cup followed in the years after.

Particularly noteworthy are the successes at the Winter Olympics, such as in Sochi 2014, when Omar finished 12th in the snowboard cross and ended the season in the same year in the excellent 1st place in the snowboard cross ranking. The following years were also marked by many successful competitions, such as the Winter X-Games of 2015, where he won silver. Visintin also became Italian Snowboard Cross Champion more than once (2014, 2016, 2017). At the 2017 World Snowboard Championships in Sierra Nevada, Omar finished in an excellent 9th place. The following season he won in Cervinia and in Erzurum and finished 3rd in Moscow and 5th in the Snowboardcross World Cup. Visintin also won the team competition in Erzurum and Moscow together with Emanuel Perathoner. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, he finished 25th in the snowboard cross.

The following seasons were marked by further top ten finishes as well, including second place in the Snowboard Cross World Cup. Finishing 18th in the individual competition and silver in the team competition resulted from the 2019 World Snowboard Championships in Park City. Later, Omar celebrated his 5th World Cup win in Big White. He also raced to third place in Montafon and second place in Veysonnaz to finish 3rd in the Snowboard Cross World Cup. After finishing 25th and 49th at the beginning of the 2020/21 season in Chiesa in Valmalenco, he finished 20th in the individual and 6th in the team competition at the 2021 Snowboard World Championships. At the end of the season he won in Bakuriani and took 7th place in the Snowboardcross World Cup.

2022 was also a very successful year for Visintin. At the Winter Olympics in Beijing, the talented snowboarder won a silver and a bronze medal.

3 questions for Omar Visintin

What we always wanted to know...

What does Algund mean to you?
Quite simple. Algund means home to me! It is the place where I was born and grew up. It is the place where I feel at home and where I can recharge my batteries between my travels.
Where is your favourite place in the garden village?
This is rather a difficult question. There are so many beautiful places in Algund. For sure, the sports and recreation zone is one of my favourites! With the new pump track, the village really has a 360°-sports offer and there is certainly something for everyone! Whenever I need a bit more peace and quiet, I go to Vellau or Aschbach!
Which sporting activity do you particularly recommend to our Algund guests?
Hmm, that's not so easy to answer either, because there are so many possibilities in Algund! There are many great cycling and hiking routes starting from Algund. And as I said, the new pump track is awesome! Oh, and almost forgot - Algund has one of the most beautiful and largest bouldering zones in South Tyrol! A true paradise for climbers.
