Spider Murphy Gang Unplugged
Since the early 80s, when the Spider Murphy Gang (SMG) from Munich was considered by many to be the spearhead of the New German Wave (NDW) in their heyday, a lot has happened in over 40 years of stage experience! Their roots stem from synth rock, pop, and wave sounds (e.g., "Wo bist du," "Ich schau dich an," "Skandal im Sperrbezirk") and, with their album "Unplugged – Skandal im Lustspielhaus," they transition to Rockabilly, Boogie Woogie, Zydeco, Jazz, Swing, Blues, Country, and Ragtime.
The guys from Schwabing, affectionately called "Spiders" by their fans, show with their Unplugged concert that they are not just a simple pop band or NDW combo. Their musical exploration begins in the early 20th century and harmonizes wonderfully with some of their own hits from their band's history. Therefore, you'll find not only the tried-and-true songs of the Spiders but also Elvis, Chuck Berry, Hank Williams, as well as Canned Heat or Rocco Granata. This is extraordinary for SMG, as they originated as a traditional and purist rock'n'roll band.
A band that wears its new face well: frontman Günter Sigl takes on the role of entertainer and musical tour guide – to share anecdotes and special experiences with his audience. Guitarist Barney Murphy impresses with his acoustic instrument, Willie Duncan shines on everything with strings – pianist Ludwig Seuss excels with Boogie Woogie and Jazz – and brass player Otto Staniloi masters his instruments both gently and powerfully. Andreas Keller and Dieter Radig, who complete the Spider Murphy Gang, give the concert the right rhythm on their various percussion instruments. Thus, they create an almost intimate atmosphere, as if the band were sitting on your living room couch.
