The Meran High Mountain Road is one of the most beautiful high-Alpine circular hiking routes in Europe. At a length of 100 kilometres, it surrounds South Tyrol’s largest nature park, the Texel Group Nature Park, at an altitude of approximately 1,400 metres. There are constantly altitude differences to be overcome from 100 metres. The Texel Group is situated between the Italian-Austrian border, the Meran basin, the Passeier Valley and the Schnals Valley.
The Meran High Mountain Road is divided into a Northern and a Southern route. The northern part of the mountain road has its peak at the Eisjöchl, which is at an altitude of 2,895 metres. In the southern realm, you can reach an altitude of 1,839 metres above sea level at the Hochganghaus Hut.
For this hiking trip, you need to start in Vellau, which you can reach either by bus or by chair lift. Take the basket lift facility to the Leiter Alm.
From there, take the Meran mountain road to the Hochgang refuge hut (1.5 hours). Now walk in a westerly direction to the Goyener and Tabland Alm (approx. 1 hour) and to the Ziel Valley / Nassereith hut (1,523 metres).
From the hut, you make your way down to the Ziel Valley and Partschins (path # 8).
The descent is very steep near the water falls.
From Partschins you can take the bus back to Algund.

Via the Adige Valley, take the MeBo expressway to the Algund exit and further on Vellau.
Coming from Vinschgau, Vellau/Algund is just before Merano.
