The Meran High Mountain Road is one of the most beautiful high-Alpine circular trails in Europe. At a length of 100 kilometres, it surrounds South Tyrol’s largest nature park, the Texel Group Nature Park, at an altitude of approximately 1,400 metres. There are altitude differences at about 100 metres along the way. The Texel Group is situated between the Italian-Austrian border, the Meran basin, the Passeier Valley and the Schnals Valley.
For this hiking trip, you need to start in Vellau, which you can reach either by bus or by chair lift. Take the basket lift facility to the Leiter Alm.
From there, take the Meran mountain road to the Hochgang refuge hut (1.5 h). Now walk in a western direction to the Goyener and Tabland Alm (approx. 1 h) and to the Ziel Valley / Nassereith hut (1,523 metres).
From the hut, make your way down to the Ziel Valley and Partschins (path 8).
The descent is very steep near the water falls.
From Partschins you can take the bus back to Algund.
